About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Head Custodian, the Custodian supports the Facility Maintenance Division by maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in City buildings, facilities, and grounds, including offices and parks and recreation sites. Duties are performed in interior and exterior areas associated with assigned facilities, with some outdoor work throughout the year at City-sponsored special events. The position may be required to report to work when an emergency is declared in Polk County.

Requirements

• One year of work-related experience.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
• Ability to work occasional weekends, holidays, and nighttime events and hours of operation.
• Ability to communicate and present oneself professionally.
• Ability to operate tools used to perform the job effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees, officials, and the general public.
• Ability to take and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to read and understand product instructions.
• Valid Florida Class E driver's license.
• Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial duties, including vacuuming rugs, dusting, wet mopping floors, and cleaning glass, windows, and mirrors.
• Empty trash containers and refill soap and other dispensers.
• Inspect, sanitize, and clean restrooms daily.
• Maintain lists of cleaning supplies and essential work tools.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and needed repairs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
