About The Position

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas. Ottawa University is a regionally accredited, church-related, private university that strives to integrate faith, learning, and life in the academic experiences of students. This position is responsible for performing interior and exterior building cleaning maintenance in assigned areas. Responsibilities include activities such as building cleaning, collecting trash and debris, moving, and arranging furniture, and helping to maintain the overall appearance and safety of University’s property and buildings. Position requires communication primarily with other custodial staff and secondarily with other University employees and students. Works as a member of the Facility and Plant Operations Department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior general related work experience.
  • Requires regular lifting and carrying of objects.
  • Requires regular bending, kneeling, and squatting as a part of regular required routines.
  • Ability to effectively accept and apply the instruction and critique of others and continue to show job improvement with increased experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students/employees/guests of the University community.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, go up and down stairs, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, agility and dexterity to work in small spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning of carpet and tile, walls, windows, doors, furniture, restrooms, offices, porches and sidewalks.
  • Regular maintenance cleanings, spot or stain removal, and detail cleaning of specific areas for special events.
  • Works with supervisor and/or maintenance staff on specialized tasks such as inventory of equipment and/or maintenance of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Performs work for University special events requiring event “set ups” and “tear downs”.
  • Must work cooperatively with others within and outside of the department to provide a complete and efficient service.
  • Must have a positive work attendance, work in a variety of environments and climatic conditions, have flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours, and the willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
  • Represent the University in a positive and service-oriented manner.
