About The Position

The Custodian - Maintenance, under general direction, performs custodial and general maintenance services to keep assigned areas clean, orderly, safe, and secure according to established standards. The role uses various power-driven machines and cleaning materials, and performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance. Assignments may be adjusted daily. The position performs routine indoor and outdoor cleaning and maintenance at a Parks and Recreation facility. Work is primarily indoors, though some duties take place outdoors and are subject to natural weather conditions. The employee generally works alone following verbal and written instructions, but may periodically work as part of a select team. Shift work may be required. The position requires successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation, adherence to County safety guidelines, completion of assigned FEMA trainings, and a valid New Mexico driver's license by the date of hire that is maintained during employment. The employee is also required to operate a county vehicle.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to speak, read, and understand English and provide direction to others in English.
Ability to work with the tools and under the conditions described in the job listing.
Knowledge of custodial maintenance standards and techniques.
Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
Completion of all FEMA trainings assigned to the position.
Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed.
Ability to work effectively with management and staff.
Ability to read, write, and understand written instructions in English.
Ability to plan a work schedule accurately, meet time demands, maintain a regular work schedule, and remain mentally alert while performing repetitive work.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed; operate and move cleaning equipment; and move furniture such as tables, desks, chairs, and file cabinets.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders; crouch, kneel, and crawl; bend at the waist and twist or rotate; and work with arms extended or bent and push or pull with the arms.
Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate equipment and supplies, and coordinate hand and eye movements while operating power equipment and performing cleaning duties.

Responsibilities

Perform daily custodial duties, including sweeping sidewalks; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and spot-cleaning floors; cleaning high-traffic areas; emptying trash and replacing liners; and cleaning and sanitizing restrooms.
Clean and disinfect surfaces and fixtures such as tables, desks, boards, countertops, woodwork, vents, toilets, urinals, sinks, and showers; spot-clean walls as needed.
Shampoo carpets; strip, wax, and buff floors; wash interior and exterior windows; perform major indoor and/or outdoor wall cleaning; and wet-dust and polish furniture.
Schedule major cleaning activities around site meetings and schedules, and move equipment and furniture as needed to perform cleaning duties.
Conduct a daily inventory of janitorial supplies.
Respond to requests for custodial and general maintenance assistance as needed.
Set up and take down tables, chairs, and other items for center programs and events.
Perform daily walkthroughs and replace light bulbs and electrical covers; adjust and tighten door fixtures; and unclog sinks, toilets, and drains.
Perform minor preventive maintenance and repairs on facility equipment, benches, and bleachers, including replacing or tightening nuts, bolts, and screws.
Perform minor facility painting.
Maintain facility grounds and outdoor walk paths, including sweeping, snow removal, weeding medians and plant beds, removing litter, and raking as needed.
Submit work orders as needed.
