About The Position

The Norfolk Veterans' Home is seeking a Custodian/Housekeeper to maintain sanitation standards in a long-term care facility. Duties include cleaning members’ rooms, restrooms, and facility offices, including walls, windows, and ceilings. The employee removes laundry from living areas and may help deliver clean linen and personal items to residents’ rooms. Floor-care work includes vacuuming, spot removal, carpet shampooing, mopping, buffing, and waxing as needed, as well as other cleaning duties. The schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an every-other-weekend rotation. The wage is $19.892 per hour, consisting of a $16.892 base rate plus a $3 differential for every hour worked. A pre-employment background check and drug screening are required.

Requirements

No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to operate heavy commercial cleaning equipment.
Ability to move or lift up to 75 pounds and push or pull up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of and cleaning experience in a commercial business, hospital, medical building, or long-term care facility.
Experience with floor-care equipment such as high- and low-speed buffers, carpet extractors, auto scrubbers, and floor scrubbers.

Responsibilities

Mix cleaning solutions in proper proportions.
