About The Position

Provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors. Our staff will communicate with professionalism, utilize environmentally friendly products and meet the University’s needs. Housekeepers will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining University buildings.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of common cleaning practices and standards; exposure to common cleaning chemicals on daily basis
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and coordinate multiple assignments
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product label instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Communicate with professionalism.
  • Comfortable working in environments where the temperature may be cold or hot.
  • In lieu of education, previous experience in housekeeping is acceptable; however, a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or with a team.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to continuously stand or walk.
  • Staff may be required to move furniture and equipment.
  • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently and 10-20 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Physical ability to complete work assignments that may require climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing and pulling.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • May change light bulbs as directed.
  • Locks doors after cleaning areas.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, windows, tiles, fixtures, equipment and floors.
  • Vacuums, dusts, and polishes specified areas and/or furnishings. Sanitizes and disinfects bathroom.
  • Restocks paper and soap supplies.
  • Gathers and transports refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal locations.
  • Inspects physical condition of assigned areas; submits requests to appropriate personnel regarding repairs, replacements, furnishings and relocation of equipment.
  • Requests cleaning materials and supplies from designated areas; mixes cleaning solutions according to specifications, loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated work areas.
  • Operates standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers and mops.
  • Event Staffing.
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Replenishes supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
