About The Position

Serves on a custodial crew to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the University and its grounds. Works in various facilities and performs duties as required. The position is considered emergency essential and may require reporting to campus during emergencies or closures. A physical evaluation based on the job’s physical demands is required.

Requirements

• Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.
• Must undergo a physical evaluation based on the position’s physical demands.
• Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment.
• A satisfactory pre-employment background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping, manual labor, and related tasks in offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, polishing, and preparing routine cleaning solutions.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to appropriate outdoor containers; inspect items for recycling acceptability; clean, decontaminate, and deodorize waste containers; and, when required, handle or transport hazardous materials, including biohazardous waste boxes.
• Perform floor maintenance and special cleaning, including stripping, waxing, polishing, spray buffing, burnishing, carpet cleaning, stain removal, and cleaning upholstered furniture; operate commercial cleaning equipment and flood pumps as needed.
• Move or rearrange furniture, fixtures, and laboratory equipment; set up tables, chairs, partitions, sign stanchions, and other equipment for scheduled events.
• Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps, and sidewalks using appropriate cleaning equipment and materials; check and replenish equipment fuel, oil, and solution tanks as needed.
• Unlock and lock campus buildings, laboratories, offices, and rooms, and safeguard assigned keys.
• Maintain and clean assigned equipment; wear required safety equipment or clothing; report maintenance or safety hazards and supply or equipment needs; and perform other duties needed to maintain cleanliness and safe, efficient departmental operations.
