About The Position

This is a full-time, 12-month evening custodial position at Millard North Middle School, working Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The role performs routine cleaning and maintenance to provide safe, clean facilities for children and MPS staff. Work areas include classrooms, conference rooms, lecture and study halls, cafeterias, libraries, gymnasiums, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, athletic areas, hallways, common areas, and outside building areas. Duties also include lamp replacement, operating mechanical cleaning equipment, removing trash from grounds and playgrounds, watering turf, sweeping sidewalks, and snow removal tasks. The position requires acceptable interpersonal skills when working with co-workers, staff, students, and the general public. Employees must be able to perform duties with minimum supervision, use assigned equipment and supplies appropriately, wear provided uniforms, and use proper PPE. The role involves moderate physical strength, including lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 70 pounds of force. The position offers an additional 29 cents per hour added to the hourly rate, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and an NPERS retirement plan.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain amiable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public, and fellow workers.
Ability to work overtime on occasion.
Ability to complete required training and demonstrate proper usage of products and equipment.
Ability to work from a ladder and scaffolding.
Ability to perform assigned duties with minimum supervision.
Must maintain a clean and neat appearance, wear uniforms provided, and use proper PPE.

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of approved housekeeping courses.
Experience as a primary or secondary school custodian.

Responsibilities

Perform floorcare, including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot cleaning, stain and gum removal, and floor shampooing.
Pick up and empty trash; change plastic waste bags; and provide services for the lunch program.
Clean and dust restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards and whiteboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies.
Clean and polish furniture and keep restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.
Replace defective lightbulbs, clean mechanical grills, dust horizontal and vertical surfaces, and keep ceiling tiles in place.
Provide services for special activities and identify and report items requiring repair.
Work with supervisors, lead staff, and co-workers and provide feedback on building maintenance needs.
Remove trash from grounds and playgrounds, water turf, sweep sidewalks, and perform snow removal operations.
Operate, clean, and care for assigned equipment and supplies.
