UH Custodial Worker
About The Position
The Custodial Worker performs custodial cleaning and related maintenance duties, using heavy-duty powered floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners. The role includes maintaining and adjusting equipment, cleaning and replacing blinds, changing light bulbs, washing fixtures and partitions, and moving heavy furniture and supplies. In living quarters, the worker makes beds, changes linens, and collects soiled linen. The position also involves keeping restrooms and other facilities clean, orderly, and sanitary. Duties include cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing toilets, urinals, lavatories, sinks, mirrors, water fountains, showers, saunas, and steam rooms; dusting ledges and woodwork; and replenishing restroom supplies. The worker maintains cleaning supplies and equipment and notifies a supervisor when additional materials are needed. Other related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check and resolve any discrepancies.
- Meet federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation.
- Have sufficient knowledge and skill to read signs and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Be able to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
- Be able to use powered equipment and perform minor maintenance on it.
- Be able to learn Material Safety Data Sheets.
Responsibilities
- Scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial powered scrubbers and buffers.
- Vacuum rugs using industrial vacuum cleaners.
- Adjust, clean, and oil equipment, and change brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments.
- Wash and replace venetian blinds; change light bulbs; and wash ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds.
- Move heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.
- Make beds, change linens, and collect soiled linen in living quarters.
- Keep restrooms clean, orderly, and sanitary.
- Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
- Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains; dust ledges and woodwork.
- Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
- Maintain stocks of cleaning materials and equipment and notify the supervisor when more are needed.
- Clean showers, saunas, and steam rooms.
- Perform other related duties as required.
