About The Position

Serves as a Custodial Worker at a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) location. The primary purpose of the position is to perform a variety of custodial duties within the store. The work involves cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, using powered floor-cleaning equipment and cleaning products, performing seasonal outdoor upkeep, clearing snow and ice, and helping prepare the commissary for sales and promotions.

Requirements

Be a U.S. citizen or national; proof of citizenship is required if selected.
Meet the minimum age requirement, generally 18 years old. Employment under 18 may be possible in certain circumstances with supporting documentation.
Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service.
Pass identity and employment eligibility verification through E-Verify.
Receive a favorable suitability or fitness outcome following a background investigation; new federal employees will be fingerprinted.
Be able to obtain and maintain clearance eligibility based on the appropriate background investigation.
Provide direct deposit of pay information.
Move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds.
Regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Demonstrate the ability to perform the work without more than normal supervision.
Demonstrate dexterity and safe work practices, including keeping work areas neat, clean, and orderly.
Interpret instructions and specifications other than blueprints.
Know materials and how to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Qualifying experience may include janitorial work in a retail, office, or warehouse environment and use of floor scrubbers, power washers, floor buffers, buckets, mops, cleaning cloths, cleaning solutions, or squeegees.
Education may not be used to qualify for this position.

Responsibilities

Maintain an orderly and clean specified area according to general instructions.
Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using heavy industrial powered equipment.
Remove stains from rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Perform seasonal groundskeeping, including cutting grass, pulling weeds, and trimming bushes.
Pick up litter from the immediate area outside the building.
Remove ice and snow from sidewalks, entrances, and other public pedestrian areas in and around the commissary.
Assist with preparations for displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, and other promotional activities.
