About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada, is hiring a Custodial Worker 1 in its Facilities Department. The role performs custodial duties using cleaning chemicals and equipment, including dusting; cleaning glass, stainless-steel elevator surfaces, water fountains, dry-erase boards, and chalkboards; vacuuming; and daily mopping. Duties also include cleaning spills, refinishing and buffing floors, emptying trash and replacing soiled bags in common areas, and collecting and separating recyclable materials. The employee locks and alarms doors as directed by the Supervisor, removes snow and graffiti, assists with special-event setups, assists students, and performs other assigned duties. The position is designated as Essential Personnel and may require work outside regularly scheduled hours during campus emergencies, special events, or closures needed to maintain campus safety or building operations. The posting lists typical day and swing shift schedules, which may change based on organizational needs. Minimum qualifications have been waived for this position through December 31, 2026, under Executive Order 2026-002. Requirements

The listed essential qualifications are high school graduation or equivalent education and six months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental, or similar environment; or six months of general work experience plus six months of such custodial or janitorial experience; or six months of experience as a Custodial Worker Trainee in Nevada State service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must submit to pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Perform custodial duties using chemicals and equipment.
Dust and clean glass, stainless-steel elevator surfaces, water fountains, dry-erase boards, and chalkboards.
Vacuum and mop daily; clean spills; refinish and buff floors.
Empty trash daily, replace soiled bags in common areas, and collect and separate recyclable materials.
Lock and alarm doors as directed by the Supervisor.
Remove snow and graffiti.
Set up for special events and assist students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work outside regular scheduled hours when required for campus emergencies, special events, or closures.
