The Opportunity: Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Custodial Specialist III. This role is responsible for providing advanced custodial services while delivering day-to-day guidance and operational support to Custodial Specialist I and II staff. This role ensures high standards of cleanliness, safety, and service quality across assigned areas while promoting efficient and consistent service delivery.

Requirements

  • Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • New hires selected for this position at the University of Central Florida can expect to be offered the base salary amount for the role. Compensation is determined in alignment with UCF’s pay structure and internal equity considerations.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H‑1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience performing advanced custodial services, including specialized floor care (stripping, refinishing, burnishing, and buffing) and carpet/upholstery maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in conversational English.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or guiding custodial staff, including coordinating daily work assignments and supporting team performance.
  • Experience conducting quality assurance inspections, audits, and documenting results to ensure compliance with cleanliness standards.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment, cleaning chemicals, and best practices for maintaining surfaces and extending asset life.
  • Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards related to custodial operations (e.g., OSHA, chemical handling).
  • Experience responding to urgent service requests and adjusting workflows to meet operational and life-safety needs.
  • Ability to train and onboard staff in custodial procedures, equipment use, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
  • Experience using work order or facilities management systems (e.g., IWMS) to track and manage tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Experience monitoring inventory levels and coordinating custodial supply needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized cleaning duties including hard floor care (stripping, finishing, burnishing, buffing), carpet and upholstery maintenance, and detailed cleaning of restrooms, common areas, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Maintain facilities at a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
  • Identify and resolve non-routine cleaning issues while applying best practices to protect surfaces and extend asset life.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Custodial Specialist I and II staff.
  • Assist in coordinating daily work assignments to ensure timely task completion.
  • Serve as a point of contact for team questions, issues, and service needs, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and positive team environment.
  • Conduct cleanliness inspections and audits to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Document findings, identify improvement areas, and communicate results to leadership.
  • Support workflow prioritization and adjust assignments based on service demands or urgent needs.
  • Respond promptly to urgent and life-safety requests.
  • Assist with onboarding and training on custodial procedures, equipment use, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
  • Reinforce adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs.
  • Support work order management in IWMS, ensuring accurate updates and timely completion.
  • Maintain records of work activities, materials, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with staff, customers, and stakeholders to support effective service delivery.
  • Attend meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.
