About The Position

This position involves leadership functions, including receiving assignments, working alone or with a small group, and overseeing the work of others while working alongside them. The Lead Worker directs, leads, and/or coordinates the work of other custodial workers. Responsibilities include assisting in continuous training, daily monitoring of work, ordering supplies, managing equipment inventory and budget, and participating in discussions about work performance and behavioral issues. The Lead Worker also assists new employees with time-off requests and supervises the work group in the absence of the Custodial Supervisor. Additionally, this role manages processes and phases in AiM and assigns work orders. The work functions include cleaning and maintaining various areas such as halls, offices, shops, classrooms, restrooms, and elevators by sweeping, dusting, mopping, operating floor care equipment, reconditioning floors, and spot washing walls and doors. It also involves cleaning and maintaining all floors and floor coverings, including vacuuming, burnishing, and carpet encapsulation, following procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment. The role requires mixing cleaning solutions, cleaning entrances, steps, patios, concourses, exterior and interior glass surfaces, ceiling lights, and vents. Emptying and cleaning waste cans, trash cans, recycle bins, and water fountains are also part of the duties. Proper maintenance of battery-powered equipment, including checking battery water levels monthly, is required. Other duties include notifying building managers of needed repairs and driving a UF State vehicle, requiring a valid class “E” Driver’s License.

Requirements

  • Completion of ninth grade
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid class “E” Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma
  • Two (2) years of commercial custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures and techniques.
  • Experience with Aim, Kronos, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PeopleSoft).
  • Experience managing large and multiple crews and operations
  • Experience positively managing and motivating a diverse workforce
  • Experience interfacing and providing customer service that aligns with Building Services’ values and vision
  • Experience working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Orders supplies and manages equipment inventory and budget.
  • Participates with the supervisor in discussions with employees pertaining to work performance and behavioral issues.
  • Assists new employees with inputting time-off requests as needed.
  • In the absence of the Custodial Supervisor, the Lead Worker supervises the work group.
  • Manages processes and phases in AiM and assigns work orders.
  • Cleans and maintains daily all halls, offices, shops, classrooms, conference rooms, labs, gym areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and elevators which includes sweeping, dusting, dustmopping, wet-mopping, spot-mopping, operating floor care equipment such as scrubbers and burnishers, reconditioning of floors (shower scrub and topcoat) and spot washing and cleaning of walls, doors, and partitions, empty trash.
  • Cleans and maintains all floors and floor coverings which includes regular duties such as vacuuming, burnishing, and encapsulation of carpets.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
  • Cleans all entrances, entrances, steps, patios, and concourses.
  • Spot cleans and cleans all exterior and interior glass surfaces of all assigned buildings.
  • Cleans ceiling lights and vents.
  • Empties and cleans all waste cans, trashcans, recycle bins, water fountains, etc.
  • Properly maintain battery powered equipment to include checking battery water levels monthly.
  • Notify building managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Drives a UF State vehicle, requires incumbent possess and maintain a valid class “E” Driver’s License.
