About The Position

This position involves leadership and operational functions within a custodial services team. The Custodial Worker III will receive assignments from a Supervisor, potentially working alone or with a small group, and will also oversee the work of others while working alongside them. Key responsibilities include directing, leading, and coordinating the work of custodial employees, assisting with their training and daily monitoring, ordering supplies, managing equipment inventory and budget, and participating in performance and behavioral discussions with employees. The role also involves assisting new employees with time-off requests and, in the absence of the Custodial Supervisor, supervising the work group. Process management in AiM and assignment of work orders are also part of the role. The operational duties include cleaning and maintaining various areas such as halls, offices, shops, classrooms, labs, restrooms, and elevators, which involves sweeping, dusting, mopping, operating floor care equipment, reconditioning floors, spot washing, and cleaning walls, doors, and partitions. Additionally, the role requires emptying trash, cleaning and maintaining all floors and floor coverings, following procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment, mixing cleaning solutions, cleaning entrances, steps, patios, and concourses, spot cleaning interior and exterior glass, cleaning ceiling lights and vents, and emptying and cleaning waste receptacles. Proper maintenance of battery-powered equipment is also required. The position also entails notifying building managers of needed repairs and adhering to all Building Services Standard Operating Procedures and Facilities Services Policies and Directives. A criminal background check and physical examination are required.

Requirements

  • Completion of ninth grade
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Requires Class E Drivers’ License.
  • Criminal background check and Physical examination required.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma
  • Two (2) years of commercial custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures and techniques.
  • Experience with Aim, Kronos, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PeopleSoft).
  • Experience managing large and multiple crews and operations
  • Experience positively managing and motivating a diverse workforce
  • Experience interfacing and providing customer service that aligns with Building Services’ values and vision
  • Experience working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Floor care training and experience (hard surfaces and carpets).
  • Experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assignments from Supervisor that may include working alone or with a small group and overseeing the work of others while working alongside them.
  • Directs, leads, and/or coordinates the work of others.
  • Assists in continuous training and daily monitoring the work of custodial employees.
  • Orders supplies and manages equipment inventory and budget.
  • Participates with the supervisor in discussions with employees pertaining to work performance and behavioral issues.
  • Assists new employees with inputting time-off requests as needed.
  • Supervises the work group in the absence of the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Manages processes and phases in AiM and assigns work orders.
  • Cleans and maintains daily all halls, offices, shops, classrooms, conference rooms, labs, gym areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and elevators which includes sweeping, dusting, dust- mopping, wet-mopping, operating floor care equipment such as scrubbers and burnishers, reconditioning of floors (shower scrub and topcoat) and spot washing and cleaning of walls, doors, and partitions, empty trash.
  • Cleans and maintains all floors and floor coverings which includes regular duties such as vacuuming, burnishing, and encapsulation of carpets.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
  • Cleans all entrances, entrances, steps, patios and concourses.
  • Spot cleans and cleans all exterior and interior glass surfaces of all assigned buildings.
  • Cleans ceiling lights and vents.
  • Empties and cleans all waste cans, trashcans, recycle bins, water fountains, etc.
  • Properly maintain battery powered equipment to include checking battery water levels monthly.
  • Notify building managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Follow and adhere to all Building Services Standard Operating Procedures, and Facilities Services Policies and Directives.
