About The Position

The Custodial Services Supervisor provides daily, hands-on leadership to a team of custodial team members, coordinating and directing their work to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. As a working supervisor, this role is responsible for assigning tasks, inspecting outcomes, and providing on-the-floor training and support. The Supervisor actively performs cleaning duties alongside the team as needed, leading by example to foster a culture of quality and teamwork. This position is the foundational entry point into custodial leadership, ideal for a skilled custodian ready to develop their people management skills.

Requirements

  • High School (HS) Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1 - 2 years of direct experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a custodial, facilities, or operational setting, with demonstrated responsibility for managing team member performance, training, and scheduling.
  • Valid driver’s license (if travel between sites is required).
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment operation, commercial cleaning procedures, and chemical safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage schedules, tasks, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team with fairness and consistency.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to effectively resolve worksite issues.
  • Proficient in using standard computer software for supervisory tasks such as email communication, timekeeping approvals, and generating daily reports.
  • Ability to operate all standard custodial equipment (e.g., auto-scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as operational needs dictate.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Business Management, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing multiple teams or shifts.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification
  • Ability to ensure quality standards are met through daily inspections, on-the-spot coaching, and hands-on demonstration of proper techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day custodial operations, including task assignments, shift coverage, and timekeeping.
  • Conduct quality inspections and checks to ensure all work meets established standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Train, coach, and develop staff by providing hands-on demonstrations, conducting daily work inspections, and offering on-the-spot feedback and support.
  • Assist with formal performance evaluations and address and resolve day-to-day staff issues in a professional manner.
  • Actively model and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring all company policies and regulatory guidelines (e.g., OSHA) are consistently followed.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and coordinate with management for replenishment or repairs.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints or worksite supply shortages quickly and effectively.
  • Lead by example by performing a full range of custodial duties alongside the team, serving as the hands-on expert for special projects like floor care or carpet extraction.
  • Support and assist with the execution and monitoring of KPIs to assist leadership in making drive data-informed decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex client concerns and contractual obligations.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and committees to align custodial operations with organizational goals.
  • Oversee emergency response protocols and contingency plans related to custodial services and staffing.
