About The Position

The City of Tracy is seeking a creative and community-minded Cultural Arts Education Assistant to support its growing Cultural Arts Program. This role will assist with both arts education and the exhibition program, aiming to bring meaningful cultural experiences to residents of all ages. As part of the education team, the Assistant will help prepare and lead hands-on classes, workshops, and activities, fostering an inclusive, creative learning environment. The position also plays a key role in supporting gallery operations, including coordinating with artists, assisting with curation, and helping install and maintain exhibitions. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career arts professional looking to contribute to a vibrant cultural program, collaborate with staff and local artists, and enrich the cultural life of Tracy through public service and creative engagement.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college level coursework in accounting, business administration, communications, arts education, arts administration, recreation administration, fine arts, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible experience involving responsible customer service, arts education class development and instructing, cashiering, or related area.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
  • May be required to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Arts Education Program operations is desirable.
  • Candidates with gallery experience or familiarity with art handling are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily AEP activities, including opening and preparing for sales, processing registration, refunds, and transfers via telephone or in person.
  • Records transactions.
  • Maintains AEP inventory.
  • Prepares for and monitors classes.
  • Works with contract instructors.
  • Teaches classes, workshops, camps and activities as needed.
  • Operates related computer systems.
  • Maintains records and files, financial records, and sales reports.
  • Assists with development of the class and course descriptions for the AEP class catalog and promotional materials.
  • Promotes classes and programs through flyers, the website, and social media.
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from theater patrons regarding performance and ticketing information.
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from patrons regarding classes and workshops conducted in the facility.
  • Prepares cash deposits from sales, art gallery purchases, and class registrations as required.
  • Assists with training part-time staff and/or volunteers on AEP procedures and systems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
