About The Position

Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Junior Cook to support food service operations at Vanwey Dining Hall. This position plays a key role in meal preparation, kitchen organization, and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. The Junior Cook contributes directly to the success of DRTC’s mission by supporting high‑quality food service while upholding organizational standards and procedures. This role combines traditional Junior Cook responsibilities with essential prep‑cook functions, ensuring consistent, high‑quality food preparation and smooth kitchen operations.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a full‑service restaurant or completion of a certified food training program
  • Strong knife skills and proficiency in food preparation techniques
  • Knowledge of culinary practices, food safety regulations, and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or ID
  • Ability to pass extensive agency and client background checks
  • Must complete DRTC/TWP Food Sanitation and Safety course, Contractor’s badge, and vehicle registration prior to employment

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Cook with preparation of food
  • Prepare and chop ingredients for various dishes, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Follow recipes and instructions from the Senior Cook or kitchen manager
  • Assist in the cooking process as needed to support timely meal service
  • Handle food items safely, ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation to prevent contamination
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including knives, mixers, ovens, warmers, fryers, tilt grill, and other tools
  • Clean and sanitize all equipment after each use, including tables, fryers, warmers, ovens, and kitchen hoods
  • Perform Senior Cook and line server duties when assigned
  • Report equipment malfunctions or repair needs promptly
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen and service areas
  • Adhere to all food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and DRTC/Tinker Work Project policies
  • Maintain cleanliness of entryways and surrounding areas, including removal of leaves, gum, litter, and snow
  • Use power sprayer to clean and sanitize loading dock and sidewalks as required
  • Participate in inventory management by tracking supplies and notifying supervisors of low stock levels
