About The Position

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. The CSU Deputy Director provides leadership to and manages the operations of the court service unit, manages human and capital resources, and ensures the proper application of all pertinent policies and procedures according to departmental, state, local and judicial requirements. This position also collaborates with local stakeholders, community partners, and the judiciary.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state, local and public laws and ordinances relating to criminal justice
  • Experience applying the principles/practices of organizational management including personnel, planning, management analysis, and supervision
  • Knowledge of leadership practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, other agencies, and public officials is also needed
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the development, evaluation, and administration of a variety of diverse programs within the unit and with other agencies is important
  • Knowledge of and experience in budgeting practices
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs is essential to the daily operation of the unit
  • A valid driver’s license is required of DJJ employees to operate a state-owned or leased vehicle.
