About The Position

These positions will assist elementary school children in crossing roads safely at designated school crossing locations. The anticipated term of employment, in accordance with the 2026-2027 elementary academic calendar, will be from August 24, 2026 – June 30, 2027. Successful candidates will be expected to be available for the full duration of the employment term. All crossing guard employees must be available to attend mandatory training on Monday, August 24, 2026 & Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Requirements

• Recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) valid within the last three (3) months is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with school-aged children and interact and cooperate with people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
• Must be able to work in all forms of weather, including extremes of heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, sleet and wind.
• Must have the ability to perform the physical aspects of this position including standing and walking for prolonged periods of time and carrying a hand-held stop sign.

Responsibilities

• Assist elementary school children in crossing roads safely at designated school crossing locations.
• Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can cross.
• Wear mandatory safety equipment supplied by the Corporation of the City of Sarnia.
