About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Police Major, prepares crossing zone, and assists children in crossing streets safely on a seasonal basis while children attend school.

Requirements

• Knowledge of city traffic patterns and school crossing regulations.
• Ability to obtain knowledge of school zone safety procedures.
• Ability to lift, move and carry moderate objects and to work under variable weather conditions.
• Ability to carry out instructions.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
• Ability to grasp, crouch, stoop, bend, climb, stretch, and walk in order to perform the job.
• Vision and hearing acceptable for performance of duties.
• Experience working with members of the public.

Responsibilities

• Prepares school crossing zone by placing warning cones in the street.
• As children arrive, takes them safely across the street, watching traffic closely and stopping cars if necessary.
• When children are finished crossing, removes cones from street.
• Acts as a liaison between children and city public safety function.
