About The Position

Under general direction, this role supervises, plans, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Crossing Guard Program. The position also coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the public.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six years of responsible crossing guard experience.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a crossing guard program.
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of pertinent State and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.
  • Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices.
  • Skill with operating modern office equipment including computer equipment and software.
  • Skill with operating a motor vehicle safely.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of crossing guard staff.
  • Ability to select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to crossing guard programs and functions.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
  • Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for the Crossing Guard Program.
  • Plan, implement, and manage the Crossing Guard Program Budget.
  • Input data, manage communications, and approve schedules using employee management software.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Crossing Guard Program; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improving crossing guard service delivery methods and procedures; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
  • Maintain attendance and payroll records.
  • Work with individual schools and school districts in an advisory position; approve yearly safe walking routes with each school principal; work with school districts for bussing concerns and school time changes.
  • Ensure that all lights are working and report service needed to the City or DOT.
  • Purchase and pick up crossing guard uniforms and equipment.
  • Coordinate assigned services and activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult inquiries and complaints.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
