About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous operation of AWS data centers and their associated equipment. This role provides full life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, acting as the primary engineering resource for a region. The engineer will troubleshoot failures, support operational issues, develop conceptual designs for upgrades, interface with various internal teams to promote standards, develop innovative solutions, manage concurrent projects, conduct engineering audits, and act as a resident engineer during new construction.

The role is key to Amazon's vision of being the world's most customer-centric company, leading projects to scale data centers to meet evolving customer needs. The ideal candidate possesses strong engineering judgment, is detail and data-oriented, experienced in solving problems with engineered solutions, skilled in managing engineering projects and consultants, adept at building stakeholder relationships, adaptable, and comfortable with a mix of office and field work.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Must have a valid US driver's license and reliable personal transportation by start date.

• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
• Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
• Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
• Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
