About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous operation of AWS data centers and their associated equipment. This role involves providing full life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, acting as the primary engineering resource for a region, and collaborating with diverse teams to address complex challenges. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects and drive innovative solutions in a fast-paced, hyper-scale environment. The role offers a mix of office and field work, with opportunities to contribute to data center upgrades, new construction, and operational improvements focused on capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Valid and active driver's license
  • 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial engineering including but not limited to the following sectors: data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities. (Experienced Engineer)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Experience as resident engineer or hands-on (in the field) design consultant or owner’s engineer.
  • Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/mass production
  • Basic understanding of both mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (Including but not limited to: uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers [air-cooled and water-cooled], pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment, etc...)
  • Possess data analytics skills, data querying skills/language, scripting, and comfort with working in vast amounts of data in new and evolving environments
  • Strong Engineering Judgement and ability to provide recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards.
  • Organized with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
  • Act as the 'go to' engineering resource for technical advice within a designated region.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions to add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety teams to promote standards for consistency and reliability.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects, potentially in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on-site visits, producing reports with risks and recommended mitigations.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
