About The Position

The District Attorney's Office is seeking a Crime Victim Coordinator to join their team. This role is crucial in promoting and creating a safe community by assisting and educating victims throughout the criminal justice process. The coordinator will develop and implement courtroom orientations, assist victims with important documentation like Victim Impact Statements and Victim Compensation Applications, and provide emotional support during hearings. This position serves as a vital liaison between victims, investigators, and attorneys, ensuring victims receive necessary information, advocacy, and referrals to community resources. The role also involves managing caseloads, maintaining records, staying updated on victim assistance trends, and assisting with program effectiveness and policy development.

Requirements

  • Requires Associate’s degree in social work, law enforcement, or psychology.
  • Three (3) years of experience in social or human services, law enforcement, court procedures and administration, or related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and educates victims during the criminal justice process.
  • Develops and implements courtroom orientations with victims, particularly children.
  • Assists victims in completing Victim Impact Statements and Victim Compensation Applications.
  • Attends hearings with victims for emotional support (bond, grand jury, trial, etc.).
  • Talks to investigators and prosecutors about cases.
  • Assists investigators and prosecutors with interviews.
  • Serves as liaison between victims, investigators, and attorneys.
  • Provides telephone advocacy, face-to-face advocacy, and crisis intervention to victims and their family members.
  • Provides information and advocacy concerning case status.
  • Makes follow-up contacts with victims via telephone or mail.
  • Provides referrals to community resources.
  • Manages caseloads and maintains records with regards to caseloads.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in victim assistance through attending trainings.
  • Assists officers with emergency protective custody in providing care to victims.
  • Completes order of protection paperwork with victims.
  • Assists with ensuring the program is performing effectively and to the maximum potential.
  • Assists in processing employee concerns and problems.
  • Develops program policies and guidelines.
  • Attends meetings, holds membership, and participates on relevant task force committees and victim advocacy organizations.
  • Prepares literature to educate victims about the criminal justice process and crimes.
  • Provides information and advocacy regarding temporary protective orders.
  • Completes referrals for services including forensic interviews, counseling, and therapy.
  • Assists victims following case disposition.
  • Assists with compiling statistics on victims served by type of crime and by demographics.
  • Maintains files of incident reports, victim notification forms, financial statements, and resource applications.
  • Performs related work as required.
