About The Position

The City and County of Denver is recruiting for a Crime Victim Compensation Specialist within the Denver District Attorney's Office. This is a grant-funded limited position with an expected end date of December 31, 2026, with the possibility of an extension. The Denver District Attorney's Office's mission is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes, investigate potential crimes, do justice, advocate for victims' rights, and advise in crime deterrence and prevention. The office employs approximately 120 attorneys and 180 support staff, handling over 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The Crime Victim Compensation Specialist will perform secretarial duties utilizing legal terminology, procedures, and documents, working with limited supervision to process Crime Victim Compensation claims and provide assistance to crime victims and service providers. This role involves complex duties, requiring the employee to carry assignments through to completion with substantial independence, and interact with the public, community partners, co-workers, and other District Attorney's staff, often with individuals in crisis, requiring discretion, judgment, courtesy, tact, and empathy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience

Responsibilities

  • Working with limited supervision and performs a number of duties related to processing Crime Victim Compensation claims and providing assistance to crime victims and service providers
  • Receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence
  • Reviews information for completeness and evaluates the need for additional documentation
  • Monitors and tracks receipt of the information and enters data completely and accurately
  • Answers telephone inquiries from the public, provides referral to community agencies, and responds to inquiries from community agencies and service providers
  • Reading and summarizing police reports
  • Explaining Crime Victim Compensation program policies to victims and service providers
  • Processing payments and data entry
  • Other duties, as assigned or requested
