About The Position

Benton County is seeking a Crime Victim Advocate to provide services to crime victims by assisting them as they exercise their rights and utilize available services. This role involves navigating adult criminal and juvenile justice court proceedings, offering trauma-informed services and support to crime victims, and acting as a liaison between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement, and community resources. The position also includes reviewing and evaluating cases to ensure victims have meaningful access to their legal rights, preparing correspondence and documentation, and participating in interagency activities. This position works under close to moderate supervision.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
At least 4 years of experience in the field of Human or Social Services, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, Victim's Outreach Services, Community Projects or Community Justice.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience (not internship experience) to be considered as equivalent.
One year of internship experience in a prosecution office will be accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience.
Must pass a fingerprint-based background investigation and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
Must successfully complete the State Victim Assistance Academy, Basic Victim Advocacy Certification within the first year of employment.
Skills in operating basic office equipment including a personal computer utilizing word processing software.
Skills in interacting with people under stressful conditions.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public and other employees.
Ability to make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain records, reports and other data.
Ability to use good judgment in carrying out tasks and responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

Victim advocacy experience in a prosecution office.
Knowledge of the juvenile and adult criminal justice system and legal procedure including state and local laws, legal terminology and court processes/procedures.
Considerable knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, documents, terminology, victimology, stress and crisis intervention techniques; court procedures and processes.

Responsibilities
