About The Position

This is an entry-level professional work position within the Gun Crime Unit of the Prince George's County Police Department. The incumbent will serve as the primary liaison and coordinator between the Gun Crimes Unit, Homicide Unit, and the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) for cases involving violent repeat offenders. The role involves analyzing and managing data related to violent crimes and offenders to support investigative, intelligence, and enforcement efforts. The incumbent will utilize advanced knowledge of law enforcement databases to gather, analyze, and disseminate critical information related to violent crime trends and specific offenders. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate the PGPD Violent Repeat Offender Program. These Limited Term Grant Funded positions support the Prince George’s County Violent Crimes Grant and the Police Department’s Violent Crime Reduction Initiative by helping to reduce existing gaps in services and fostering collaboration among partner agencies and stakeholders. The program targets suspects involved in gun violence, homicides, gang/crew members and associates, and repeat offenders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or business administration.
  • Six (6) months experience in data processing.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Be willing to work days/evenings/weekends/holidays.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee.
  • The incumbent shall not disseminate confidential information, administrative or operational, unless expressly authorized.
  • Confidential information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Police Department), except for work-related reasons, under terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act.

Responsibilities

  • Accesses and analyzes information from multiple law enforcement databases (e.g., Linx, NCIC, MD Case Search, Federal BOP, State BOP, Clear, RMS, LGC Mainframe, DC/VA/Federal Case Search, Gun Offender Registry, JAIC, DC SOCC reports, Federal and State Probation/ Parole Releases, MD Property search, Pawn databases, Gang Database, NIBIN, E-Trace, ATF, FBI and DEA reports).
  • Accesses and analyzes information from social media (Instagram/ Tic Toc, Snapchat, X (Twitter), YouTube, Facebook) and what’s new and trending.
  • Identifies patterns and trends in violent crime to support the development of proactive enforcement strategies.
  • Monitors and tracks violent repeat offenders, providing detailed analysis and reports to the Gun Crimes Unit, Homicide Unit, and CGIC.
  • Coordinates efforts between the Gun Crimes Unit, Homicide Unit, and CGIC to ensure effective case management, intelligence, and communication.
  • Provides analytical support for ongoing investigations, including surveillance, data extraction, and case file management.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of cases for prosecution by compiling and synthesizing relevant data.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with various law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders involved in violent crime investigations.
  • Facilitates the sharing of intelligence and information across agencies to ensure a unified approach to handling violent repeat offenders.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports, including data-driven recommendations for action based on analysis.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all analytical work, ensuring data is readily accessible for use in court proceedings or strategic planning.
  • Engages with community stakeholders to provide information and support on issues related to violent crime.
  • Participates in public presentations and educational outreach to promote awareness of violent crime prevention efforts.
