Creative Technologist (AI Design Engineer)

OpenArt AI•San Carlos, CA

About The Position

OpenArt is hiring a Creative Technologist to bridge professional creative production and product development, helping build an agentic creative environment that understands creators’ goals, selects models and tools, runs workflows, and returns work creators can review and finish. The role focuses on identifying pain points in professional production and turning them into validated, polished interactive prototypes that can be handed to engineering for launch. The position works with OpenArt’s in-house creative team, enterprise clients, and product, model, and engineering teams. It is based in San Carlos, California, and is full-time, on-site or hybrid. Visa sponsorship is available.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in professional creative production, such as advertising, film, or content, with an understanding of workflows from brief to delivery and their bottlenecks.
  • Proficiency with AI coding tools, model APIs, agent frameworks, and lightweight code, with the ability to independently build working prototypes quickly.
  • Ability to take work independently from problem definition and workflow research through interaction design, visual design, and a usable prototype suitable for professional users.
  • Strong product taste and a high bar for craft, polish, and interaction quality.
  • A portfolio or GitHub demonstrating tools, prototypes, products, or experiments built.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with professional editing, compositing, motion, or 3D tools, including understanding their limitations in real projects.
  • Background in advertising, film, or content production, with firsthand experience of professional deadlines and client and team needs.
  • Experience at a creative lab, innovation agency, or AI product team, and comfort turning ambiguous new technology into concrete, usable work.
  • Experience building agent-based systems, including tool-calling, MCP, skills, or custom automations.

Responsibilities

  • Embed in real production work with the in-house creative team and enterprise clients to identify workflow bottlenecks and opportunities for agent-led work.
  • Translate research into end-to-end workflows that an agent can run, and define professional standards for completed outputs.
  • Design how complex generative workflows should be presented, including what the agent handles and where professionals can review, adjust, and finish work.
  • Prototype concepts rapidly using AI tools, Figma, lightweight code, and APIs, developing polished interfaces with motion, transitions, and micro-interactions.
  • Define the hypothesis each prototype is intended to test and assess results to decide whether to scale, iterate, or stop.
  • Work with product, model, and engineering teams to turn validated prototypes into shipped features.
  • Develop reusable components and interaction patterns to help future workflows reach creators faster.

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation including base salary, bonus, and equity, based on experience.
  • Meaningful equity ownership in the work built.
  • Visa sponsorship available.
