Creative Technologist (AI Design Engineer)

OpenArt AI•San Carlos, CA
•$180,000 - $250,000•Hybrid

About The Position

OpenArt is hiring a Creative Technologist to bridge professional creative production and product development. The role focuses on turning real production pain points into practical AI-powered workflows and interactive prototypes, then validating them and handing successful solutions to engineering for launch. The person will help shape an agentic creative environment that understands creators’ goals, selects models and tools, performs work, and returns results that professionals can review, adjust, and finish. The position requires familiarity with professional production from brief through delivery, along with the ability to research workflows and independently build polished prototypes using AI tools, design tools, lightweight code, and APIs. The role collaborates with product, model, and engineering teams and contributes to reusable components and interaction patterns. The position is based in San Carlos, California, and is full-time, on-site or hybrid. Visa sponsorship is available.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in professional creative production, such as advertising, film, or content, with understanding of the process from brief to delivery and its bottlenecks.
  • Proficiency with AI coding tools, model APIs, agent frameworks, and lightweight code, with the ability to independently build working prototypes quickly.
  • Ability to independently deliver end-to-end work, from problem definition and workflow research through interaction design, visual design, and a usable prototype suitable for professional users.
  • Strong product judgment and a high bar for craft, polish, and interaction quality.
  • A portfolio or GitHub demonstrating tools, prototypes, products, or experiments built.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with professional editing, compositing, motion, or 3D tools, including knowledge of their limitations in real projects.
  • Background in advertising, film, or content production.
  • Experience at a creative lab, innovation agency, or AI product team.
  • Experience building with agents, including tool-calling, MCP, skills, or custom automations.

Responsibilities

  • Embed in the production work of OpenArt’s in-house creative team and enterprise clients to identify workflow bottlenecks and opportunities for agent-led work.
  • Translate production learnings into end-to-end workflows that an agent can run, and define what professional-quality completion means for each workflow.
  • Design how the agent handles complex generative workflows and where professionals can review, adjust, and finish the work.
  • Rapidly prototype concepts using AI tools, Figma, lightweight code, and APIs, from early concept through polished interfaces with motion, transitions, and micro-interactions.
  • Define the hypothesis each prototype is meant to test, assess what was learned, and recommend whether to scale, iterate, or stop.
  • Collaborate with product, model, and engineering teams to take validated prototypes into shipped features.
  • Develop reusable components and interaction patterns to accelerate future workflows.

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation including base salary, bonus, and equity, based on experience.
  • Meaningful equity ownership in what you build.
  • Visa sponsorship available.
