Creative Strategy Manager - Design Studios

Boston Consulting Group•Chicago, IL
•$99,000 - $137,000

About The Position

The Creative Strategy Manager is a creative technology leader within BCG Design Studios, building prototypes, digital experiences, tools, and end-to-end creative pipelines. The role applies code and emerging technologies—including generative AI, creative coding, AR/VR, and physical computing—to turn ambitious creative concepts into working solutions. It moves between rapid AI-assisted experimentation and production-ready development, selecting technologies and approaches that improve the work and support the creative process. The position serves as the studio’s R&D engine by exploring and evaluating emerging models, APIs, platforms, and frameworks, then sharing findings and building proofs of concept. It also works directly with clients and BCG case teams to translate technical possibilities into compelling ideas, lead workshops, shape narratives, and help organizations apply AI in their creative processes. The role builds studio capabilities and supports technically complex client projects with bespoke digital solutions and AI-powered tools. Design Studios is a global, multidisciplinary in-house creative agency whose professionals develop design strategies, creative work, and digital solutions for BCG and its clients. The role generally involves working from a BCG office or in person with clients regularly, typically around 50% of working time, depending on business needs and local policies. BCG describes its environment as dynamic and collaborative, with in-person collaboration supporting culture, mentorship, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Creative Technology, Engineering, Media Arts, or a related field.
  • Six to ten or more years of experience in creative technology, digital innovation, or a hybrid role; agency, innovation lab, or media and technology experience is preferred.
  • Fluency in Python, JavaScript, or a similar language, with a record of building projects from idea through execution.
  • Practical experience using generative AI tools and platforms, such as Runway, Flux, or ComfyUI, in a creative context.
  • Experience building agentic systems and pipelines, including prompt taxonomies, evaluation rubrics, multi-step workflows, and API orchestration.
  • Working knowledge of RAG, tool use, and context windows.
  • Experience with automation frameworks and systems integration, and the judgment to decide when to build versus connect existing systems.
  • Understanding of how brands work and how digital experiences can create memorable moments.
  • Confidence presenting to and working with clients, leading sessions, shaping narratives, and guiding reviews.
  • Ability to build inventive code ranging from rapid prototypes to production-grade React or Next.js applications.
  • Ability to work with frontier-model tools across text, image, video, and audio, and connect them into systems.
  • Ability to build agentic workflows that connect models, APIs, and tools to reason, evaluate, and iterate.
  • Ability to choose appropriately among prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and deterministic steps.
  • Ability to move between creative and technical contexts, communicate technical possibilities to non-technical audiences, and balance experimentation with delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an agency, innovation lab, or media and technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and redesign creative workflows to reduce manual work while preserving craft.
  • Translate creative and strategic briefs into working prototypes, including real-time 3D visualizations, generative tools, and interactive brand experiences.
  • Evaluate emerging models, APIs, and platforms, form recommendations, and build proofs of concept to demonstrate their potential.
  • Support live client projects by developing bespoke digital solutions and AI-powered tools in response to project briefs.
  • Build capabilities across the studio by running workshops and sharing discoveries with designers, producers, and consultants.
