About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations, specifically 501(c)(3) organizations, to enhance community life. GCU has a partnership with NextGen Creatives, an organization dedicated to nurturing the creative talents of youth in the foster care system. This intern position, approved as Community Service (CSLP), focuses on improving the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, by offering services accessible to the public. As a Federal Work-Study (FWS) Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) position, applicants must complete the FAFSA to determine FWS eligibility. The work schedule is flexible, aligning with NextGen Creatives' operational needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and potential for summer employment.

Requirements

Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
Comfort supporting youth from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Must have reliable transportation.
Applicants must complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Responsibilities

Design and illustrate books, workbooks, and children’s products using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva.
Lead on-site “creative literacy” stations during community events where foster youth are engaging and learning provided materials.
Collaborate with “A Hope & A Future” to customize educational assets specific for their youth.
Perform other duties as assigned.
