About The Position

The CR Writer assesses vehicle condition by inspecting vehicles for damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems. After inspection, the CR Writer documents the vehicle’s condition and estimates repair or replacement costs. The role also makes reconditioning recommendations intended to increase vehicle value and provides sale-day assistance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• ASE and/or ICAR certifications, or a background in automotive repair and cost estimating.
• Ability to multitask.
• Organization and follow-up skills.
• Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmissions.
• Reasonable computer skills and ability to use a mobile computer device.
• Valid in-state driver’s license and an acceptable, safe driving record that can be maintained.
• Regularly stand, walk, reach, and kneel.

Nice To Haves

• Previous body shop experience.

Responsibilities

• Use a tablet to complete Condition Reports, including vehicle identification data, condition descriptions, repair-cost estimates, and photographs.
• Recommend reconditioning to increase vehicle value.
• Assess vehicle condition upon delivery and document damage or repairs needed for paint, engine, air conditioning/heater operation, electronics, and tires.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable labor rates, parts charges, and manufacturer updates, and follow inspection and documentation work instructions and procedures.
• Follow predetermined safety procedures and demonstrate commitment to workplace safety.
• Provide sale-day assistance, including coordinating lanes, locating and moving vehicles, and starting or jumping vehicles.
