About The Position

As a CPU Performance Analysis Engineer at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., you will work on CPU performance analysis and tuning, microbenchmark development, workload characterization and tracing, and competitive performance analysis using industry-standard benchmarks and workloads. The role involves gathering and analyzing CPU performance data on silicon and performance simulators, identifying software and hardware opportunities to improve workload performance, and developing trace collection tools and competitive performance prediction models. You will present competitive performance findings concisely.

Requirements

  • Strong grasp of computer architecture and operating-system fundamentals.
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash, Perl, or Python.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, x86 or ARM-compatible assembly language.
  • Familiarity with CPU performance models.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience; or a master’s degree in one of these fields and 5+ years of related experience; or a PhD in one of these fields and 4+ years of related experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more system architecture technology areas and products, such as Power System, Shared Resource Management, Limits/Thermal Management, or Hardware Islands.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with hardware performance profiling tools such as Vtune or perf, and binary instrumentation tools such as DynamoRio or PIN.
  • Experience characterizing industry-standard benchmarks such as CPU2017, GeekBench, AnTuTu, and Speedometer, and workloads such as Memcached, NGINX, Redis, and DCPerf.
  • Experience writing micro-benchmarks to measure CPU or SoC performance characteristics.
  • Prior experience developing trace collection tools and using them to trace workloads for CPU performance simulators.
  • Experience with CPU performance simulators or analytical models.
  • Experience with OS internals (Windows, Linux, or Android), system programming, and compilers (GCC, LLVM, or JIT).
  • Knowledge of the competitive landscape, feature specifications, and industry trends in the server and client domains.

Responsibilities

  • Collect CPU performance data for various workloads and benchmarks.
  • Conduct detailed workload characterization on silicon and performance simulators.
  • Profile workload execution and identify opportunities to improve performance in software (including OS, libraries, and frameworks) and hardware.
  • Develop tools and techniques to collect representative workload traces for CPU performance simulators.
  • Create micro-benchmarks to understand the performance characteristics of competitors’ CPUs and SoCs.
  • Build competitive performance prediction models.
  • Present competitive performance data concisely.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
