About The Position

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is hiring a CPU Performance Analysis Engineer in the Engineering Group’s SoC Architecture organization. The role focuses on CPU performance analysis and tuning, CPU roadmap performance projections, workload characterization and thread-level behavioral modeling, workload tracing, and competitive performance analysis using industry-standard benchmarks and workloads. The engineer will collect and analyze CPU performance data on silicon and performance simulators, profile workload execution, and develop models of single-threaded and multithreaded benchmark behavior. The role also involves creating tools and techniques to project SoC benchmark performance, building competitive performance prediction models, preparing roadmap and competitive CPU/SoC comparisons, and presenting results concisely. Locations listed are San Diego, Santa Clara, and Austin.

Requirements

  • Strong grasp of computer architecture and operating system fundamentals.
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash, Perl, or Python.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, x86, and ARM-compatible assembly language.
  • Familiarity with CPU performance models.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience; or a master’s degree in one of those fields and 3+ years of such experience; or a PhD in one of those fields and 2+ years of such experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more system architecture technology areas and products, such as Power System, Shared Resource Management, Limits/Thermal Management, or Hardware Islands.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with hardware performance profiling tools such as Vtune or perf, and binary instrumentation tools such as DynamoRio or PIN.
  • Experience characterizing industry-standard benchmarks such as CPU2017, GeekBench, AnTuTu, or Speedometer, and workloads such as Memcached, NGINX, Redis, or DCPerf.
  • Experience writing micro-benchmarks to measure CPU/SoC performance characteristics.
  • Prior experience developing trace collection tools and using them to trace workloads for CPU performance simulators.
  • Experience with CPU performance simulators or analytical models.
  • Experience with operating system internals (Windows, Linux, or Android), system programming, and compilers (GCC, LLVM, or JIT).
  • Knowledge of the competitive landscape, feature specifications, and industry trends in the server and client domains.

Responsibilities

  • Collect CPU performance data for various workloads and benchmarks.
  • Conduct detailed workload characterization on silicon and performance simulators.
  • Profile workload execution and develop single-threaded and multithreaded behavior models of industry-standard benchmarks.
  • Develop tools and techniques to project SoC benchmark performance using a CPU performance simulator and analytical characterization models.
  • Prepare benchmark projections for the roadmap and competitive CPU/SoC comparison and analysis.
  • Build competitive performance prediction models.
  • Present competitive performance data concisely.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants, except for employees on sales-incentive plans.
