CPU Design Verification Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Santa Clara, CA

About The Position

This role focuses on design verification for next-generation CPUs, translating new CPU features and microarchitectural designs into effective verification plans. The engineer analyzes RTL designs, verifies functionality and performance, and drives assigned areas through verification closure. The work includes developing and improving verification environments, debugging complex design issues, performing coverage analysis, and partnering across design, testbench, and emulation teams. The role contributes to next-generation CPU technology spanning client, server, and data center products. The successful candidate is collaborative and self-directed, enjoys understanding complex CPU designs at the hardware level, approaches technical challenges with curiosity and sound judgment, communicates clearly across engineering teams, takes ownership, and is comfortable adopting new verification methods and tools.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of CPU architecture and microarchitecture, including hardware implementation and interactions between CPU blocks.
  • Experience analyzing register-transfer level designs and debugging complex verification failures.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog and Universal Verification Methodology environments.
  • Experience programming in C or C++.
  • Experience with functional coverage, code coverage, and verification closure.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CPU design verification and modern verification methodologies.
  • Familiarity with verification testbench development and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with hardware emulation.
  • Knowledge of formal verification techniques.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence tools or workflows to engineering activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive verification plans for new CPU features and microarchitectural implementations.
  • Analyze register-transfer level designs to understand functionality, interactions, and verification requirements.
  • Create and maintain functional and performance verification tests.
  • Develop, enhance, and debug verification environments and testbench components.
  • Drive assigned verification areas from planning through design closure.
  • Perform coverage analysis, identify verification gaps, and implement strategies to address them.
  • Diagnose complex design and verification issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Collaborate with CPU design, verification, testbench, and hardware emulation teams.
  • Improve verification methodologies, debugging capabilities, and engineering workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to partner engineering teams.
