About The Position

The CPS SOARS! program is a four-week summer learning experience for current grade K-4 students with demonstrated academic need. The CPS SOARS! Principal, under the direction of the Summer Program Lead and the Executive Director of Academics, is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and management of the CPS SOARS! program and summer operations at their assigned site. The contract dates are May 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026, with program operations primarily in July. The working hours in July are 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Cambridge Public Schools.
  • Minimum of five years experience in teaching or leadership roles.
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure in Early Childhood preK-2, Elementary 1-6, and/or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous school leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong preference given to current Cambridge Public Schools employees.

Responsibilities

  • Attend logistics and collaborative planning meetings.
  • Participate in the recruiting and hiring process for program staff.
  • Support school-based student recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborate with department and program staff to develop program-specific themes that integrate with the district provided ELA and math curricula.
  • Create schedules and class rosters, including staff lunch and prep time.
  • Manage a program budget for supplies and enrichment activities.
  • Participate in planning for pre-program professional development for summer teaching staff.
  • Oversee and manage daily program operations.
  • Serve as a liaison for families and teachers in the program.
  • Oversee transportation and pick up of students.
  • Coordinate breakfast/lunch/snack program.
  • Coordinate and supervise field trips.
  • Provide teacher support and supervision.
  • Maintain communication with the Summer Program Lead.
  • Maintain student attendance data and student pick up logs.
  • Maintain the safety of program participants.
  • Disseminate communications to families regarding program guidelines, policies and expectations.
  • Ensure a smooth transition for students attending DHSP extended day.
  • Coordinate with team members to plan one parent event.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Summer Program Lead and/or the Executive Director of Academics.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate dependent upon collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate.
  • Time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours (for non-exempt employees).
