About The Position

The CPS Summer Skills Boost program is a four-week focused summer program designed to provide high-impact tutoring for current 6th and 7th-grade students who have demonstrated academic needs in math and literacy. The program will run from July 6th to July 30th, operating Mondays through Thursdays at The Putnam Avenue School. Students will be grouped by their home school (CSUS, DVUS, RAUC, PAUS) and assigned to school-based educators. Tutoring will be available in-person or via Google Meet, with a student-to-tutor ratio of 1:5. The contract period spans from May 1st to July 30th, 2026, including a training and planning phase.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach students with a range of learning needs in multi-age classrooms.
  • MA DESE licensure in English 5-8, Mathematics 5-8, and/or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 preferred.
  • Priority will be given to regularly appointed teachers from Cambridge Public School District.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting and signing up students identified by school-based literacy/math coaches and teachers.
  • Reviewing student data, planning, and facilitating small group tutoring sessions in literacy or math for up to 5 students, twice per day.
  • Monitoring academic progress.
  • Building relationships with students during tutoring sessions.
  • Sharing student progress weekly with families and caregivers.
  • Attending professional learning sessions as applicable.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate dependent upon collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate.
  • Time and a half for hours worked over 40 per week for non-exempt employees.
