About The Position
The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) provides comprehensive care for critically ill children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. The unit serves pre-term infants, neonates with complex disease, children of all ages, and the adult congenital population. It is committed to service excellence and an interdisciplinary model of care, featuring 34 beds, dedicated pediatric cardiac-specialized nurses, CPCU attendings, a core of advanced care providers, an active mechanical assist program, and participation in PC3. The role offers extensive opportunities for clinical, translational, and acute care registries.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Board Certified in Pediatrics.
- Board Eligible/Certified in Pediatric Cardiology.
- Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
Nice To Haves
- Successful completion of pediatric cardiology fellowship with experience in neonates with complex and single ventricle physiology.
- Must be able to be flexible, collaborative within the Heart Institute and other areas within CHCO.
Responsibilities
- Provides care for patients admitted to the CPCU, including those from the CHC emergency department, transfers from outside institutions, direct admissions, and transfers from the CICU.
- Experience and familiarity with heart disease in patients from neonates to adults with congenital heart disease.
- Supervision of patient care and progression in partnership with Advanced Practice Providers, pediatric cardiology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students.
- Partnership with cardiology nursing leadership and bedside nurses.
- Develop, implement, and promote educational and support resources.
- Participate in PAC3 multi-institutional database and liaison with like institutions and units.
- Develop clinical guideline pathways and quality improvement initiatives.
