About The Position

The New York State Unified Court System Children’s Centers provide a safe, literacy-rich environment and support positive interventions for vulnerable children. The Program Assistant supports the Program Director in operating a structured, interactive recreational and educational drop-in program that aligns with the mission of the YMCA and the Unified Court System.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and/or substantial experience working with children under 13 years of age.
  • Must be able to relate well to children and adults
  • Required certifications CPR/First Aid

Responsibilities

  • Follow all CDC, OCFS and DOH guidelines as they apply to programs
  • Understand the YMCA Children’s Courthouse and UCS policies and procedures
  • Maintain standards reflective of NYS Day Care Regulation
  • Actively engage with the children at all times.
  • Communicate clearly, appropriately and nonthreatening at children’s level
  • Participate in quarterly fire drills
  • Understand all paperwork and recordkeeping for the program
  • Must work cooperatively with Program Director and other staff
  • Must communicate professionally with parents
  • Must attend and participate actively in staff and advisory board meetings
  • Must attend mandatory YMCA/UCS training sessions twice a year
  • Must wear either YMCA Staff shirt or YMCA Identification at all times.
