About The Position
The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The position bags groceries at checkout, assists customers with their purchases and car loading, returns merchandise to shelves, gathers carts, cleans store and parking areas, and helps customers locate products or obtain price checks. The associate also supports seasonal merchandise handling, shelf conditioning, food safety, equipment inspection, and store safety procedures. Courtesy Clerks/Grocery Baggers must work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively, follow directions and company guidelines, and provide respectful assistance to customers, including minors, people with special needs, and older adults. The essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities
- Bag groceries at checkout, aiming to place at least five items in each bag while preventing damage to items.
- Use best practices when bagging items in reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
- Assist with removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
- Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
- Perform basic shelf conditioning.
- Inform customers of grocery specials.
- Return merchandise to store shelves.
- Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
- Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
- Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
- Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
- Learn the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
- Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager about items needing repair.
- Answer customer questions about products in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
- Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
- Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively, without confrontation.
- Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
- Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
