About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger bags groceries at checkout, assists customers with their merchandise and loading bags into their cars, maintains shelves and store cleanliness, returns merchandise and gathers shopping carts, and helps customers find products and obtain price checks. The role also includes handling seasonal merchandise, following safety and food safety requirements, inspecting equipment, and notifying management about hazards, incidents, or repair needs. The associate is expected to work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment, manage conflict reasonably, act with honesty and integrity, follow directions, and support customers including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities
- Bag groceries at checkout, aiming for at least five items per bag while preventing damage and following best practices for reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
- Assist with removing customers' merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
- Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
- Perform basic shelf conditioning.
- Inform customers of grocery specials.
- Return merchandise to store shelves.
- Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
- Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
- Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
- Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
- Understand the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
- Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
- Answer questions about products to help customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
- Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
- Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
