About The Position

The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The position primarily involves bagging groceries carefully, assisting customers with merchandise and loading bags into their cars, maintaining store and parking-lot cleanliness, returning merchandise and carts, and supporting customers with product questions and price checks. The associate also helps condition shelves, handles seasonal merchandise, follows food-safety and safety procedures, and reports unsafe conditions or equipment in need of repair. The associate is expected to work cooperatively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment; manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively; handle customer and business information honestly; follow directions and seek assistance when needed; and provide support through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. The essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Bag groceries at checkout, striving to place at least five items in each bag while preventing damage.
Follow best practices for bagging items in reusable, plastic, and paper bags.
Assist with removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart for checkout.
Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
Perform basic shelf conditioning.
Inform customers of grocery specials.
Return merchandise to store shelves.
Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
Understand the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
Comply with safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
Follow food-safety regulations and guidelines.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager when repairs are needed.
Answer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
