About The Position

A Court Security Officer is an individual certified in the State of Arkansas as a Law Enforcement Officer, assigned to provide security or security-related services for appellate, circuit, or district courts. This role involves ensuring the safety and security of courthouses and related buildings, scanning visitors for weapons and contraband, responding to alarms, and potentially serving as a Bailiff in courtrooms. The position requires maintaining law enforcement certification, carrying a duty handgun, and completing annual training. Officers may also assist with inmate control and security, conduct security assessments, and help develop emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Arkansas.
  • Provide documents that establish identity and employment eligibility.
  • Must be certified as a law enforcement officer by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
  • If not certified at hiring, must complete law enforcement certification within nine (9) months.
  • Must be able to use and carry a handgun and other weapons competently.
  • Must be able to meet the standards required for a Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Arkansas.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an effective professional work relationship.
  • Ability to apply safety and security precautions and restrain clients when necessary.
  • Ability to make judgments with minimal or no consultation.
  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Applicants are required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Law Enforcement experience is preferred but not required.
  • Law Enforcement Certification is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security for various Saline County buildings including the Courthouse, Complex Building/Tax Collectors Office, Division 4/Public Defender's office, Bryant Tax Collectors Office, Bryant District Court, and Benton District Court.
  • Maintain security at entry points by working metal detectors and scanning visitors for weapons and contraband.
  • Seize contraband and illegal items in accordance with policy and Arkansas Law, and charge individuals with appropriate crimes.
  • Respond to duress alarms and maintain radio communication with other officers.
  • Complete detailed reports of all incidents involving alarms.
  • Qualify with and carry the agency-issued handgun.
  • Complete 24 hours of annual training, including racial profiling, duty to intervene, and firearms.
  • Work within courtrooms as a Bailiff when necessary to maintain security during court proceedings.
  • Perform court-related errands and tasks as required by Judges, such as summoning attorneys or delivering court files.
  • Maintain control and security of all inmates present in the courthouse.
  • Conduct courthouse security assessments and recommend improvements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for emergency situations (fire, prisoner escape, natural disasters, hostage situations, medical emergencies, utility failures, active shooters, bomb threats).
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
