About The Position

Whatcom County is currently recruiting for multiple Court Clerks in Superior Court. Court Clerks are relied upon by Judges, Commissioners, and the public as a key role in all Court proceedings. Superior Court involves civil cases, adult felonies, all juvenile offenses, divorce, child custody, support matters, probate, guardianship's, adoptions, paternity actions, mental incompetency, and abused or neglected children. This position also provides essential clerical support and customer service. Court Clerks work in courtrooms (including in the Jail) and in the office to accurately record and enter all records from a high volume of cases. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, distracting environment and have excellent skills working with others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Three years of progressively responsible general office, secretarial and/or clerical experience.
  • Must pass job-related tests.
  • Required to take the oath of Deputy Clerk.
  • Reviews all applicable cash handling policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with court or legal procedures is strongly preferred.

Benefits

  • Annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
