About The Position

The Auburn Municipal Court is seeking a Court Clerk to join their team. This role is crucial for the daily operations of the court and is designed to foster the individual's growth within the judicial branch. The position will provide opportunities to increase knowledge of judicial procedures, specialty courts/calendars, training, and court technology, preparing the individual for higher roles such as lead court clerk or court operations supervisor. This vital team member will support the court's mission of providing accessible, respectful, and transparent service through integrity, accountability, and collaboration, fostering a respectful and mindful public service workplace culture. The position performs administrative and technical court support work, including processing and maintaining court records, scheduling and preparing matters for hearing, entering and retrieving case information, serving as an in-court clerk, processing warrants and court orders, receiving and accounting for court-related payments, and providing information and assistance to court users and justice-system partners. The work requires a thorough understanding of court procedures, accuracy, confidentiality, sound judgment, and the ability to handle a high volume of detailed work within legal and procedural requirements. The City of Auburn is conducting this recruitment to establish a qualified hiring pool in anticipation of City Council approval of funding for this position in September 2026. Candidates may participate in the recruitment process before final budget approval, but no appointment or offer of employment will be made until the position and funding are approved. The resulting eligibility/hiring pool may be used to fill this position and similar vacancies after approval.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High school, or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible court-related clerical or administrative experience, including experience applying court rules, procedures, and case-processing requirements.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test.

Nice To Haves

  • Municipal or district court experience.
  • Experience using Washington State court information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and technical support in the day-to-day operation of the court.
  • Respond to inquiries from defendants, attorneys, law enforcement, prosecutors, court partners, other agencies, and the public; provides routine information regarding court processes, case status, schedules, forms, and procedures within established authority.
  • Serve as Court Clerk while court is in session; records and documents proceedings, makes docket entries, processes orders, marks and maintains exhibits, and completes other courtroom duties as assigned.
  • Process and maintain court records.
  • Schedule and prepare matters for hearing.
  • Enter and retrieve case information.
  • Process warrants and court orders.
  • Receive and account for court-related payments.
  • Provide information and assistance to court users and justice-system partners.
