Reporting directly to a Court Administrator, the Court Clerk I is responsible for a variety of administrative and customer service duties in support of the Justice of the Peace Court, including preparing and processing forms and orders involving the filing and disposition of civil claims and criminal and traffic cases. This role involves performing detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing and maintenance of court documents and case files, providing customer service, performing extensive data entry, and maintaining databases. The position also requires utilizing legal reference materials for research, scheduling court hearings, and potentially serving as a courtroom clerk. Specific assignments may include Collections Clerk duties (developing and maintaining collections/warrant diversion programs, collecting outstanding fines/fees, working with admins/judge on payment plans), Criminal Clerk duties (processing citations, warrants, pleas, booking sheets, time-served requests, receiving/processing payments, managing a cash drawer, balancing drawer, preparing deposits, recalling warrants), and Civil Clerk duties (preparing legal documents, processing evictions, small claims, debt claims, bond forfeitures, appeals, and transfer of venues).
