About The Position

District Court 24, serving Guilford County, seeks a qualified candidate to perform a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks for the Chief District Court Judge and other District Court judges in the 24th judicial district. This is a public-facing position that will be stationed at the front window to serve as the liaison between the District Court Judges Office and internal and external agencies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Knowledge of grammar and punctuation
  • Knowledge of word processing
  • Knowledge of commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination
  • Ability to apply grammar and punctuation rules
  • Ability to type with accuracy and speed
  • Ability to spell accurately
  • Ability to use judgment in organizing and establishing document format
  • Ability to give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquiries
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
  • Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an associate degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Public with scheduling Civil District Court cases, and answering general questions
  • Daily use of Enterprise Justice (Odyssey), which includes processing Calendar Requests, managing task queues, scheduling hearings, and generating forms
  • Jury Excusals and Deferrals – managing jury excusals and deferrals via email, mail, I-Juror request, and in person walk-ins.
  • Preparing some Civil Calendars for Guilford County (mainly Minor Settlements)
  • Answering phone calls, and emails
  • Retrieving and distributing daily mail from the Clerk’s Office
  • Serving as administrative professional to all District Court Judges in the 24th Judicial District
  • Creating and maintaining Webex links for Judicial Hospitalizations and Minor Settlements
  • Preparing and tasking Failure to Comply Order’s for Judge’s signature
