About The Position

The Court Administrator is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily activities and operations of the Municipal Court. This role involves implementing policies, supervising staff, managing finances, and ensuring compliance with legal and procedural standards. The position is designated as essential, requiring availability during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience within a Municipal Court environment required.
  • Principles and practices of court administration.
  • Federal and State regulations governing warrant preparation.
  • Standards of professional customer service.
  • Methods, procedures, and standards for maintaining court and defendant account records.
  • Principles and practices of management, supervision, organization and administration.
  • General office practices and equipment.
  • Overseeing and coordinating court activities and filings.
  • Assuring compliance with regulations governing jury and defendant summons operations.
  • Displaying understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others; interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, and the general public.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration or related field.
  • Municipal Court Clerk Certification is preferred; or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to Municipal Court with the approval of the presiding judge that are within the parameters of State Law and the Texas Municipal Court Education Center guidelines.
  • Monitor changes in state law and City ordinances and implement required updates to court policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Supervise court clerks, including hiring, training, performance monitoring, productivity, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls for cash handling, mail processing, non-cash transactions, court records, and case files.
  • Ensure compliance with statistical reporting, records-retention requirements, state-cost reporting, and judicial reporting.
  • Oversee warrant administration under the judge’s direction, including warrant recalls, system reconciliation, and accuracy audits.
  • Conduct audits of open and closed court files to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare the Court’s annual budget and recommend purchases, capital expenditures, and staffing needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
