About The Position

The Court Administrator is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily activities and operations of the Municipal Court. This is an essential position that may require employees to remain on duty during and/or following a disaster, despite a general evacuation order. Employees are expected to plan accordingly for these circumstances, as failure to adhere to these requirements may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Requirements

  • Principles and practices of court administration.
  • Federal and State regulations governing warrant preparation.
  • Standards of professional customer service.
  • Methods, procedures, and standards for maintaining court and defendant account records.
  • Principles and practices of management, supervision, organization and administration.
  • General office practices and equipment.
  • Overseeing and coordinating court activities and filings.
  • Assuring compliance with regulations governing jury and defendant summons operations.
  • Displaying understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others; interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, and the general public.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience within a Municipal Court environment required.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory and managerial experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration or related field preferred. Will consider equivalent combination of experience and education, which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills required for the job.
  • Municipal Court Clerk Certification is preferred; or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to Municipal Court with the approval of the presiding judge that are within the parameters of State Law and the Texas Municipal Court Education Center guidelines.
  • Monitors changes in state law and City ordinances and implements required updates to court policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Supervises court clerks, including hiring, training, performance monitoring, productivity, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and monitors internal controls for cash handling, mail processing, non-cash transactions, court records, and case files.
  • Ensures compliance with statistical reporting, records-retention requirements, state-cost reporting, and judicial reporting.
  • Oversee warrant administration under the judge’s direction, including warrant recalls, system reconciliation, and accuracy audits.
  • Conducts audits of open and closed court files to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepares the Court’s annual budget and recommends purchases, capital expenditures, and staffing needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
