About The Position

The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture at McGill University is seeking applications for two Course Lecturer positions for the Fall 2026 term. The course, ARCH 672, is a Comprehensive Design studio (D1) that focuses on the investigation of interrelated architectural-engineering-landscape concepts and systems, with an emphasis on design methods for changing climates and conditions. The specific topic for Fall 2026 is to design a commercial building with a focus on circular economy and life cycle thinking. This studio addresses various Student Performance Criteria (SPCs) as defined by the CACB, including design, concept development, integration of structural and environmental systems, building envelopes, regulatory requirements, and environmental stewardship. Assessments will include mid-term assignments and a final review with invited critics. Instructors will be expected to collaborate with colleagues and administration to finalize scope, schedule, and assignments, and will work with different student groups as the studio is team-taught. All instructors will work with the Director and Studio Coordinator to ensure course material aligns with University Calendar regulations, pedagogical objectives, and CACB-SPC requirements.

Requirements

  • M.Arch. or equivalent (first professional degree).
  • Professional practice and/or post-secondary teaching experience in architecture.
  • Appropriate technical, environmental design, digital and/or critical, theoretical expertise for the course.
  • Active in the profession.
  • Authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • English communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ARCH 672, a Comprehensive Design studio (D1).
  • Investigate interrelated architectural-engineering-landscape concepts and systems.
  • Develop and apply design methods fit for changing climates and conditions.
  • Guide students in designing a commercial building with a focus on circular economy and life cycle thinking.
  • Ensure students demonstrate the ability to produce architectural designs based on concept, program, and urban site.
  • Integrate contextual factors, structural and environmental systems, building envelopes, regulatory requirements, and environmental stewardship into student designs.
  • Conduct evaluable assessments of studio work and SPCs via mid-term module assignments and final reviews with invited critics.
  • Work closely with colleagues and administration to confirm scope, schedule, and assignments.
  • Finalize deadlines and tests with the larger team, following conversations regarding resources and technical support.
  • Work closely with the Director and Studio Coordinator to ensure course material meets University Calendar regulations, pedagogical objectives, and CACB-SPC requirements.
  • Work with multiple different groups of students throughout the term as the studio is team-taught.
