About The Position

This position is for a Course Lecturer for RUSS 385 - Staging Russianness: From Pushkin to Chekhov (3 credits) section 001 for the Fall 2026 term at McGill University's Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The course will cover masterpieces of the Russian stage in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, focusing on the emergence of a uniquely Russian dramatic sensitivity and the role of the literary word in various forums. Requirements

• Master’s in Russian literature or successful completion of at least PhD evaluation 1 or equivalent
• Demonstrated expertise in the history of Russian theatre and in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian drama and opera
• Updated CV
• Letter of introduction stating teaching philosophy and how they would approach the teaching of this particular course
• Syllabus for this class which must follow the template provided by the McGill Course Outline Guidelines
• Authorized to work in Canada
• Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located
• English communication both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

• Preparation of the Course and Course plan
• Delivery of the Course
• Evaluation of students
• Submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades
• Supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff
• Upon request, review of their students’ grades
• Meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements
• Perform duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit
• Use appropriate pedagogical methods and material
